Is Your Mattress Compactor Increasing Changeover Times?

Jan 7th,2025 102 Lượt xem

Changeover time refers to the interval between the last product of one batch leaving the production line and the first product of the next batch being completed. It includes internal time (tasks during machine downtime, like tool changes) and external time (tasks performed while the machine runs, like initial inspections). The formula is:
Changeover Time = Internal Time + External Time.

For example, a production line with 15 minutes of internal time and 10 minutes of external time has a total changeover time of 25 minutes. For equipment like the mattress compactor, long changeover times reduce efficiency and flexibility, making it harder to meet diverse market demands. Shorter changeovers for the mattress compactor enable small-batch, multi-product production and improve responsiveness.

The SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) method effectively reduces changeover time by converting internal tasks to external ones and streamlining operations. Techniques include pre-preparing tools for equipment such as the mattress compactor, standardizing workflows, using quick-connect devices, and parallelizing tasks. Enhanced operator training further boosts efficiency, cutting downtime significantly for the mattress compactor.
